About Us

The firm was founded in 1963 by John D. Sword and Morris B. Floyd. We have grown into the largest law firm in Madison County with five partners, two associates, four paralegals, an Officer Manager/Accountant, seven full-time support staff, and one part-time employee.

Sword, Floyd & Moody, PLLC is located in the heart of Richmond's Downtown Business District in the landmark Stouffer Building. Originally built circa 1865, the Stouffer Building has undergone significant renovation three times— in 1902, 1932, and again in 1989.

The structure was completely renovated to house the expanding legal practice in 1989. The award-winning restoration included renovation of stained-glass windows, skylights, and a large, arched window on the building frontage, which light the library and reception area.

In 1991, Mike Eaves and David Bohannon received the Ida Lee Willis Foundation Preservation Award and the Richmond Chamber of Commerce Bernease Walters Beautification Award "for their outstanding efforts contributing to the beautification of the community."
